Using Your Qualification

Options with your qualification

The options open to you once you have your qualification are broad. Some of your options may not be immediately obvious. Research all avenues and consider what you have to offer to potential employers.

Build your portfolio

Conduct an audit of your skills. These fall into more than one category.

Think about:

  • subject-specific skills
  • technical skills
  • transferable core skills which graduates develop while studying

Consider the skills and personal attributes you have acquired through:

  • paid work
  • volunteering
  • managing study and life commitments
  • family responsibilities
  • sport
  • membership of societies and groups within the university and the broader community
  • leadership roles

Now you can market yourself to employers as your real self - a complete person with a lot to offer. Also reflect on what you may be lacking and plan how to fill gaps to improve your personal portfolio.
